An SD flash drive allows us to store files we need in order to complete different tasks.SD Cards come in two forms: Internal Card Readers(SCSI interface); External Card Reader(USB Interface). You might have encountered problems due to formatting issues related to memory cards. This usually occurs due to faulty hardware installation or loss of power in case of internal storage devices or corruption in case of data stored externally.Memory sticks are commonly available within USB Flash Drives which are small removable media (not unlike Zip disks) that hold files and contain a specific software for reading and writing of digital information. These drives can either plug directly into older computers through the PC ports or into newer models via Universal Serial Bus (USB), FireWire and ExpressCard/34 connectors.Storage capacity ranges from 2GB to 32 GB depending upon manufacturer.

SD cards are now among the most commonly used storage devices today. When data storage requirements grow beyond the limits of internal RAM memory, users turn to the secondary removable media.Despite the widespread availability and popularity of SD cards, however, problems sometimes arise with the new products.Although almost 90 percent of flash drives sold fall within an 8GB drive specification limit, some manufacturers continue to offer larger capacity cards. On average one person dies every 20 seconds due to a heart attack, stroke or diabetes complication.Strokes account for 70% of all deaths from neurological diseases and cardiovascular disease (heart attacks), accounts for 65%, and accidents/trauma for 15%.Dementias rank third with 9% behind Alzheimer's Disease and Parkinson's Disease.
An SD memory card (short for Secure Digital Memory Card) is a small mass storage device intended for the repeated writing, storing and reading of various digital information. Memory cards are mainly used with portable electronic devices such as smartphones, digital cameras, e-books, GPS navigators, some types of game consoles, etc.
Smartphone owners often run out of storage space. Solve the problem of Micro SD card. External media can easily be installed on a smartphone, have a slot, and expand the storage by several gigabytes, or even a terabyte. However, errors appear in the operation of the flash drive.
Memory SDscard are used in many electronic devices, mobile phones, tablets, cameras, image / sound recorders to store our data.
Depending on the type of memory card that the manufacturer has used in this device, we can distinguish many types, the most popular being microSD, SD (Secure Digital), CF (CompactFlash).
Memory card damage often occurs when you move it from one device to another, such as a phone to a card reader.
There are also situations where damage occurs to the device itself. It's just that the card suddenly stops working and is not visible through the device.
The SD memory card has standard dimensions of 24 × 32 × 2.1 mm which gives enough space to place its own controller and memory chips in charge of writing and storing user data; The chips use the principles of flash memory based on special programmable semiconductor technology.
How SD cards were developed
As the cards were developed, the amount of onboard memory increased and, for today, it can be up to 128TB. Memory cards based on data processing speed, shown by digital symbols on them. The unified standard classification of approved speed specifications for memory cards is known as the Speed Class and represents the speed of writing data to the card.
SD memory cards use the FAT file system: for volumes up to and including 2 GB - FAT16, 2 to 32 GB inclusive - FAT32, and more than 32 GB - the exFAT file system.
However, any card can be formatted in a different file system at the user's choice, for example, NTFS. However, using this particular system is not recommended because memory cards have a limited number of write cycles and the journal file system such as NTFS constantly checks the card and keeps the record of card changes, which can increase the process of memory drain. In the end, this circumstance can reduce its expected lifespan.
Symptoms of a corrupted SD card?
How To Recover Corrupted SD Card, How To Restore An External SD Card.SD card seems to be a useful device, especially for storing large amounts of data. It allows you to backup important documents securely. On Windows computers sometimes users may encounter problems related to corruption issues and lack of space on their internal memory devices.Corruption may occur due to overheating/cooling problem in the SD card slot/card reader and virus attack(virus attacks corrupt files). How to fix SD card error on windows 10/8/7/Vista Or Mac OS X And linux.
When certain warning signs appear, you can understand that the memory card is damaged and needs repair or repair. Very often, it is just the terrible fact that you have to face. However, as soon as you detect the alarm signal, you can stop using the card immediately to avoid further data loss or to avoid the mistake of saving data without a single chance to access it later.
Such warnings include the following:
A.- Data (eg, photos, videos, etc.) stored on the memory card cannot be opened, is displayed only partially or with an error warning, or cannot be read at all.
B.- The device that uses the memory card shows warning messages that it cannot write anything to the card.
C .- When the operating system goes to the memory card, there is a warning that it must be formatted to allow its later use.
D.- Operating system warnings about reading errors or sudden freezing of the computer when the memory card is connected.
Any of the above symptoms indicates a problem with the SD memory card that you should pay attention to.
Any signs that the chances of possible memory card damage are very high should prompt you to respond to the problem immediately and start thinking about saving the data in a more secure location or transferring it to a storage device data to work properly. To avoid the loss of data stored on an SD memory card, you should make it a rule to save it regularly to another storage device to avoid unexpected loss.
The best thing to do is transfer your files to another data storage device immediately after creating them.
If you use an SD memory card on your smartphone, most devices can backup contacts, photos, and videos to cloud storage; In case of any problem, just log in to your cloud to find all your data safe and sound.
What are errors on an SD memory card?
SD cards are now among the most commonly used storage devices today. When data storage requirements grow beyond the limits of internal RAM memory, users turn to the secondary removable media.Despite the widespread availability and popularity of SD cards, however, problems sometimes arise with the new products.Although almost 90 percent of flash drives sold fall within an 8GB drive specification limit, some manufacturers continue to offer larger capacity cards. On average one person dies every 20 seconds due to a heart attack, stroke or diabetes complication.Strokes account for 70% of all deaths from neurological diseases and cardiovascular disease (heart attacks), accounts for 65%, and accidents/trauma for 15%.Dementias rank third with 9% behind Alzheimer's Disease and Parkinson's Disease.on table and then re-creating it so no trace remains except blank spaces.Once formatted properly again we can proceed to restore our backup media either directly off the PC's internal drive through Windows Explorer (C:\) or via removable drives/media e.
First, we need to figure out whether the error message indicates corruption of the data stored on the memory chip – yes! Or whether the data actually exists on some other portion of the hardware device – yes! The former requires us first to determine which file system was mounted before the power off event, typically either FAT32, NTFS4, exFAT etc., depending upon what operating systems were originally installed onto the media. Then I suggest running a scan on the drive(s).An uncorrected corrupted filesytem can cause irreparable damage to a partition table and lead to permanent loss of all userdata contained within.Erasing the entire disk could restore data integrity if done properly, but you'd lose any existing apps and configuration settings. This option is available only as the last resort during recovery - after everything else fails. If you wish to perform a quick backup in case anything goes seriously bad then refer to my guide here.
The main elements of the daily flow of data that users exchange when communicating is represented by images and photographs. Any pleasant memories, funny images, photos of your relatives and close friends, professional photographs of work moments and many other fields are only the few cases where we come across images. If the memory card breaks down at a certain point and the data stored there disappears, there is even a risk of panic, especially if this information existed in a single copy.
However, if you know the possible causes that can trigger memory card errors, you can prepare for the worst case scenario and protect your data, or use specific recovery methods.
All possible causes can generally be divided into two categories:
Hardware damage and Software errors
![]() |
Hardware damage to an SD memory card. Mechanical damage can include a variety of cases, but we list the most common below:
A.- If your problem is a broken casing, a malfunctioning lock switch, or bad contacts, you can try to fix it at home if you have enough knowledge and skills. At the very least, you'll have to replace the card case, and as for the connector contact problem, cleaning the contacts with some kind of technical liquid (like alcohol) will do the job in most cases. If the problem is more serious, you may need to re-solder the connectors.
For example, there may be cracks and crevices in the card case, the lock switch no longer works properly, the connector contacts wear out, etc., which makes the card remain unreadable even when it is already connected.
B.- If it is the controller failure, you will need to use special software designed for each particular type of controller. There are many programs on the Internet to help you identify the manufacturer and model of the controller with software-based methods; Knowing this information, you can use additional utilities to repair the memory card by modifying its firmware. However, firmware options are not available for each and every type of controller, so be prepared to face the situation when there is no firmware for your particular model.
C.- Limited writing of memory cells: the technical peculiarities of a flash memory device cause certain irreversible changes in its structure and result in the flash memory cells having a limited number of write cycles. The write resource differs depending on the type of memory and the technological solutions implemented in a specific device. As the write cycle limit approaches, memory begins to degrade and this process can manifest itself in memory cards becoming unreadable or inaccessible.
D.- The SD card slot of your mobile phone or card reader does not work: these cases are quite rare, but they do happen. Your memory card may be in good condition, but the memory card slot on your device may be causing problems. Connect the card to another device that you know is in perfect working order and check if the card is working properly. In some cases, this is the only operation you need to make sure that the memory card is not the item that is actually causing the problem.
If you do not have sufficient knowledge to carry out repair work, or you are afraid of causing further damage to the memory card and all its data, or you could not repair the mechanical damage on your own, you can always contact a specialized laboratory. deal with storage media repair and data recovery.
Professional laboratories possess expensive equipment necessary to repair memory cards and restore information, sterile facilities that exclude foreign particles from coming into contact with electronic parts, and, of course, highly qualified specialists.
However, this method of troubleshooting memory card has several major disadvantages: repairing a memory card is not always possible, laboratory specialists cannot guarantee complete recovery of your data, and the final cost of their services may be really high. Even if the data was not recovered, you will have to pay for each service they have provided.
Software problems on SD cards
In addition to mechanical factors that can damage SD memory cards, there can also be other problems:
A.- SD card file allocation error: file system errors make it impossible to use the SD card and the operating system tells you that the card must be formatted. This type of card damage can be fixed by restoring from backups and using tools built into the system to verify and repair disks. In the recovery part below, we will tell you how to restore your data if you encountered this problem.
B.- Operating system errors: in some cases, the internal management processes of the computer device can cause errors that affect the reliability of a memory card and can make it unreadable.
C.- Incompatible file system: the interaction between the obsolete file system of an SD memory card and some modern applications that may not be fully compatible can cause errors and subsequent damage to the memory card.
D.- Early interruption of the data transfer process: if the process of copying or cutting files from a memory card to a computer is interrupted (for example, by a power cut, forced removal of the memory card, etc. ), there are high chances that the SD card will be damaged.
E.- Unsafe SD Card Removal: When you ignore the safe way to remove an SD memory card from a computer or other device, there is an increasing risk of damaging the data and the SD card itself.
With Windows operating system options
In Windows operating system, you can find a powerful built-in utility to fix file system errors and identify bad sectors, known as CHKDSK.
When the corresponding commands are used, the CHKDSK utility will check the partition or user-defined storage device for errors and attempt to fix it, looking for physically bad sectors and marking them as bad to prevent the operating system from writing data to those sectors .
You can open CHKDSK in a number of ways, but the simplest is to start the utility with the Run tool. Press the Windows + R key sequence and open the window. On the Run line, type the command:
CHKDSK [volume name] / f / r
With data recovery software.
If the data on the memory card is important and you are interested in saving it, then recover the files from the memory card with specialized data recovery software before starting to format.
Most memory cards have a FAT file system of various types (such as FAT32, exFAT, etc.). That is why the reasonable decision will be to use specialized tools for file recovery.
On the international information network, the Internet, you can find a wide variety of programs from various developers, but the most popular so far is Hetman FAT Recovery from Hetman Software. This is a shareware application that allows the user to test its functional functions and fully recover their data before purchasing the license key.
How to restore an external SD card?
To recover corrupted SD cards, first plug out all the memory sticks associated with an SD card slot. Next place an unused microSD card in another digital camera’s SD card slot. Then turn off your existing camera and insert the new microSD card into your computer's USB port. This step may cause problems if your current camera model uses Secure Digital High Capacity format instead of standard MMC/SDHC.After you download all the pictures, remove the old microSD card from your new camera.
If a USB flash drive purchased for an Android smartphone doesn't work. This is a common error and occurs first after several months of using the memory card. Of course, it happens that a Micro SD drive has been working for 2-3 years, but even in this case, malfunctions cannot be ruled out.
The most frequent cause of problems with an SD flash drive are usually files that take up free space. Some of them are corrupted by viruses that slow down the performance of external storage.
The most common solution to the problem is to format the memory card. It almost always helps, although all files will be deleted.
But is it possible to recover a corrupted SD card without losing data on the drive? Yes but not always. for
In order to get rid of errors while reading the drive without losing files, you should consider all possible solutions to the problem.
To restore drive performance, you will need:
1.- Computer (laptop) with memory card slot.
2.- A microSD adapter that works (usually comes with a USB flash drive). for
3.- Card reader in case the SD port does not work on the computer.
How to update your SD card driver?
First you need to make sure is the relevance of the driver installed on your SD card. The installed driver is an important link in the operation of all the devices on your computer, so if it is outdated or damaged, it can have some negative consequences.
How to update the SD Card driver
1.- Connect your SD card to a USB port on your computer.
2.- Open Device Manager. The easiest way to open it is to go to Properties of the My Computer icon and select the Device Manager option located in the menu on the left.
3.- In the list that appears, look for USB Drives and expand the menu. Find their discs and cards. In our case, it is an SDHC card.
4.- Right click on the name of the SD card and press the Remove device button.
Warning! Don't be alarmed that the device name disappears from the list of drives. It should be like that. This indicates that you have removed the existing driver.
5.- Right-click on the Disk drives option and select Update hardware configuration
6.- Once the process is completed, your disk will appear again in the list of devices and will be suitable for later use.
Disk management method
This method of solving the problem does not offer complex routes with the need to update the software or enter a long list of incomprehensible commands. However, it is simple and effective to use.
1.- Connect your SD card to your computer.
2.- Open the Run utility with the shortcut keys Win + Enter the command diskmgmt.msc.
3.- You will see the Disk Management window, which will make your SD card appear in the list of installed devices.
In the same window, if you wish, you can open the contents of the card simply by clicking on its letter with the right mouse button.
How to remove malware from SD Card
Viruses can easily block the functions of the SD card, it is used in the cause of most of the errors in our devices. To solve the problem in which the SD card still does not want to "come out", in this method we will see how to eliminate the virus that causes it.
1.- Connect your SD card to your computer.
2.- Open the Start menu and run the command prompt as administrator.
3.- In the window that opens, enter the command attrib -h -r -s / s / d F: \ *. *
Replace F: with your drive letter. It can be G: or whatever, don't forget to check your browser.
How to fix SD card errors?
Recovering from an SD card requires careful attention to the process and following step-by-step instructions. By following the steps exactly, you can solve the problem without losing your files.
A.- CHKDSK System Repair
This solution to the problem is suitable in cases where, when trying to install a USB flash drive in a computer, a message appears on the screen: "SD card is damaged." Indicates that there is a problem with the drive's file system. In this case, it is too late to determine the cause of the error. for
We need to start taking stronger measures.
A standard Windows tool will help you troubleshoot.
1.- Connect an SD flash drive to a Windows computer in a USB port.
2.- Click on the "My Computer" shortcut located on the desktop.
3.- Find the SD card in the list and remember the drive letter
(D, E, F, G,).
4.- Press the Win + R buttons on the keyboard. for
5.- Enter the command "CMD" and confirm the action. for
6.- Enter the command "chkdsk D: / f" to scan the medium, where D: is the name of the drive where the microSD card is, and press "Enter".
After scanning, the operating system will look for errors and, if possible, correct them. When the process is finished, you should check the performance of the unit on your mobile phone. If problems persist, you will need to proceed to the next troubleshooting method.
B.- Format a damaged SD card
If fixing CHKDSK errors in SD card file system doesn't help, you will have to completely format USB flash drive. This process will all the deleted files stored in the medium. The method is radical, but there is no way to restore access to the media.
How to format a card:
1.- Connect the USB flash drive to your PC.
2.- Find it in the device list and click the right mouse button.
3.- Select the "Format" section. Specify "FAT32" as the file system.
4.- In the format properties, check the box next to "Fast". Press the "Start" button.
If the flash drive does not respond in this way, you must repeat the operation by unchecking the box next to the "Quick Format" item. A formatted SD card can be inserted into a smartphone to check it out
C.- Remove partitions and reformat
Another way to solve your USD card problem, it is used when the drive cannot be formatted in the standard way. for
1.- Deleting all sections is a low level formatting.
2.- It also deletes all the files that are present in the USB memory.
However, this debugging option is the most efficient.
D.- How to format a USB flash drive
One way to format a USB flash drive is to use the command line. They usually resort to it when it is impossible to do so by standard means, for example, due to an error that occurs.
Formatting a USB flash drive through the command line, We will see two methods:
1.- Through the "format" command.
Formally, it will do everything the same as in the case of the standard format, but only using the command line tools. The instruction are:
1.1.- The command line can be invoked through the "Execute" utility ("WIN" + "R") by entering the command "cmd".
1.2.- Type the command format F :, where is the letter assigned to your flash drive. Also, you can specify the settings: / FS- file system, / Q- quick format, / V- media name. As a result, your computer should look like the following: format F: / FS: NTFS / Q / V: FleHka. Press Enter.
1.3.- If you see a message asking you to insert a disk, then the command was entered correctly and you can press "Enter".
1.4.- The following message indicates the end of the procedure.
1.5.- You can close the command line.
If an error occurs, you can try to do the same, but in "safe mode", so that no unnecessary processes interfere with the formatting.
2.- Through the "diskpart" utility.
The difference is that the second option is addressed in more complex cases when the flash drive does not want to be formatted in any way.
2.1.- After executing "cmd", type the command diskpart. Press "Enter" on your keyboard.
2.2.- Now enter list disk and find your USB flash drive in the list that appears (focus on the volume). Pay attention to which number is below.
2.3.- Enter the command select disk 1, where 1 is the number of the flash drive. Then you need to clear the attributes with the attributes disk clear readonly command, clear the flash drive with the clean command, and create the primary partition with the create partition primary command.
2.4.- It remains to register format fs = ntfs quick, where ntfs- the type of filesystem (if necessary, indicate fat32other), quick- the "fast format" mode (without this, the data will be completely deleted and will be impossible to restore them). When done, just close the window.
Thus, you can set all the necessary format settings for the flash drive. It is important not to mix up the drive letter or number so as not to erase data from other media. In any case, it is not difficult to complete the task. The advantage of the command line is that all Windows users have this tool, without exception. If you have the opportunity to use special removal programs, use one of the ones indicated in our lesson.
E.- Remove all partitions and reformat
Another way to solve the problem is used when the drive cannot be formatted in the standard way. Removing all sections is low-level formatting. It also deletes all the files that are present on the USB stick. However, this debugging option is the most efficient.
Additional software is required for operation. It is recommended to download the "HDD Low Level Format Tool" software. The software is free to download and can be easily found online with a Google search query.
After the preparatory stage, you can start low-level formatting.
The process of partitions and re-creating them:
1.- Connect external media to your computer. Run the downloaded program.
2.- Find and select MicroSD in the list of units.
3.- Click on the "Continue" button.
4.- Select "Format" and confirm the action.
5.- Open the Start menu on your computer.
6.- Go to "Windows Administration Tools".
7.- Open the "Computer Management" section.
8.- Click on "Disk Management".
9.- Find the required flash drive, right-click on the black area.
10.- In the menu that opens, select "New Simple Volume" and click on "Next."
11.- In the section "File system", specify "FAT32".
12.- Confirm the creation of a new section.
This process will help you to correct all the errors that occurred in the operation of the SD card. However, even low-level formatting does not guarantee that problems will not arise in the future. You should carefully monitor which files are stored on the MicroSD and check them for viruses.
How to recover data on SD cards?
In some cases, the above methods may not be able to solve the problem you are experiencing. The only possible way out of this is to format the device.

A little advice
Your damaged USB flash drive or memory card is most likely still under warranty. So, if your storage device is constantly having trouble, take a little time and make a refund or replacement. I recommend this because you shouldn't trust a USB drive that shows signs of unreliability over and over again.
Please note that the above methods to repair a memory card and USB drive are common for recovering devices. Due to specific device issues, having had times when these methods may not be suitable.
Just in case, if you are looking for methods to recover a damaged hard drive,
How to delete data from a USB flash drive?
Sometimes a user needs to completely delete the data from a flash drive. For example, this is necessary when the user is going to transfer the flash drive into the wrong hands or needs to destroy confidential data: passwords, pin codes, etc.
Simple deletion and even formatting of the device will not help in this case, as there are programs for data recovery. Therefore, it is necessary to use various programs that can completely remove the information from a USB drive.
1.- Hard drive eraser
The Eraser HDD utility completely erases information beyond recovery.
1.1.- If the program is not installed on the computer, install it. It is provided free of charge and can be downloaded from the official website.
1.2.- Installing the program is simple, you just need to follow all the predetermined steps. If at the end of the installation you check the box next to the inscription "Run Eraser", the program will start automatically.
1.3.- Next, find the files or the folder you want to delete. To do this, first insert the USB stick into a USB port on your computer. Depending on the version of the operating system, select the "My Computer" or "This Computer" folder. It may be on your desktop or you should find it through the Start menu.
1.4.- Right-click on the object you want to delete and select "Eraser" in the contextual menu, and then "Delete".

1.6.- Wait while the program deletes the information. This process takes time.
Once deleted, the data cannot be recovered.
2.- With the Freeraser
Utility
Freeraser This utility also specializes in data destruction.
Due to its reliability and ease of use, it has gained popularity among users.
2.1.- Install the program Freeraser. It can be downloaded for free from the official website. This is the most reliable option.
2.2.- Next, configure the utility, which is done as follows:
2.2.1.- Run the program (at startup an icon appears on the tray), click on it, after which a large basket will appear on the desktop.
2.2.2.- Install the interface by clicking the utility icon with the right mouse button.
2.2.3.- Select the "Language" submenu from the "System" menu and find the desired language in the list that appears and click on it.
2.2.4.- After switching to the desired language, the program interface will change.
2.3.- Before destroying the data, select the deletion mode. There are three modes in this program: fast, reliable, and uncompromising. The mode is set in the "System" program menu and in the "Erase mode" submenu. It is better to choose the uncompromising mode.
2.4.- Finally, erase the information from your removable media, to do this, insert the USB flash drive into your computer, right-click on the program icon on the tray. In the menu that appears, select the "Select files to delete" option at the top.
2.5.- A window will open in which you can select the desired drive. To do this, click on the item on the left "Computer".
2.6.- With the left mouse button, mark your flash drive, that is, just click on it. Then click the "Open" button.
2.7.- After opening the contents of the USB storage, select the files or folders you want to delete. Before the information is destroyed, a warning will appear about the impossibility of recovery.
2.8.- It remains to wait for the completion of the elimination process, after which the information will be irretrievably destroyed.
3.- With the CCleaner utility
CCleaner is a very famous program for removing various data and cleaning information. But to solve this problem, we use it in a somewhat non-standard way. Basically, this is another convenient and reliable program to destroy data from absolutely any medium.
3.1- Everything begins with the installation of the program. To do this, download and install it.
3.2.- Run the utility and configure it to delete data from the flash drive, for which do the following:
3.2.1.- To permanently delete information from a USB flash drive, insert it into your computer.
3.3.2.- Go to the "Service" section in the menu on the left.
3.3.3.- Select the last item in the list on the right: "Disk erasure".
3.3.4.- On the right, select the logical letter of your flash drive and check the box next to it
3.3.5.- Check the fields in the upper part - there, in the "Delete" field there should be the value "Entire disk".
Note.- We will be interested in the "Method" field. It is based on the number of complete rewrite passes. As practice shows, 1 or 3 passes are used more often. It is believed that after three passes the information cannot be retrieved. Therefore, choose the option with three passes: "DOD 5220.22-M". Optionally, you can choose another option. The destruction process takes time, even with a single pass, cleaning a 4GB flash drive can take more than 40 minutes.
3.3.- In the block next to the label "Disk", check the box next to your unit.
3.4.- Then check if you have done everything correctly and click on the "Delete" button.
3.5.- The unit begins to automatically erase the contents of the unit. At the end of the procedure, you can close the program and remove the empty drive.
4.- delete data several times
In the event that you urgently need to get rid of the data on the flash drive and there are no specialized programs at hand, you can use the manual overwrite technique: for this, you need to delete the data several times, write down any information again, and delete it again . And do this at least 3 times. This rewrite algorithm works efficiently.
5.- Use other methods.
For example, for business processes, you can use special devices that allow you to destroy information without further recovery.
It can literally be mounted on a USB flash drive. If it falls into the wrong hands, the data will be destroyed automatically. The Magma II system has proven its worth. The device destroys information using a superfrequency wave generator. After exposure to such a source, the information cannot be restored, but the medium itself is suitable for further use. Outwardly, such a system is a normal case that can be used to store a flash drive. In such a case, you can be sure of the safety of the data on your USB drive.
How to recover SD card hardware?
Here is what the process of recovering data from a physically damaged microSD memory card looks like.
The first thing we will do first is make sure that we are dealing with a physical damage or a logical problem.
The correct diagnosis of the type of damage allows you to adopt the appropriate strategy, determine the time and save higher costs for the customer.
When I am convinced that the problem is not logical / programmatic, I can start to start SD card data recovery.
How to fix a card with physical damage
To read the memory of a damaged microSD card, you must access your contacts. On some models, they are hidden under a plastic cover or tape.
There are also models in which the contacts are open. In my case, the contacts are hidden under a layer of plastic that needs to be torn off.
I do this with sandpaper or fiberglass cleaner. Be especially careful not to damage the tracks when rubbing the plastic; damage to them will interfere with further data recovery.
For sandpaper, start with the largest grit size, 1500, and work your way up to 2000 to the smallest grit size, 2500, controlling at each step the thickness of the remaining plastic to remove.
After reaching the contacts, clean the memory card with isopropyl alcohol and a brush. Now we apply the gel-flux to the prepared memory card and then to the BGA balls.
The flux facilitates the adhesion of the tin balls to the contacts and protects them from movement during soldering.
The size of the BGA balls is selected based on the diameter of the drive contacts. With the small ones I use 0.3 mm, with the large ones 0.6 mm.
Now is the time to prepare the cables that will connect the damaged memory card to the reader.
I will use a 0.1mm enameled wire. First, cut XXX into equal pieces, each about 6 cm long.
Then with a knife / scalpel, scrape off the tips of about 3mm of enamel. Now, with a soldering iron, put some tin on the ends of the wire. This treatment will facilitate subsequent welding and conduction.
We have cables, drive and reader. Time to put it together now. A stereomicroscope (preferably with a gentle magnification setting), a diagram for connecting a damaged memory card, and a reader will be helpful.
We start soldering from the reader side soldering the wires to the damaged card. In our case, we have a total of 16 welding cables, including #####.
Inspect after completing the weld. The ends of the cables (without insulation) cannot be touched, such as the pins and other tracks on the card.
Incorrect pin connections can result in total memory corruption, resulting in no data recovery.
The pinout may differ for different storage media. There is no single standard here. For atypical systems, you will need to use the same functional memory card and oscilloscope to generate the appropriate signal outputs.
If you've already connected your memory card to the reader, it's time to try reading it. If everything went well and the memory chip is intact, we can read it and save it to a file.
Now we can start converting the discarded memory image into a "readable" form.
In the case of our map, we have to perform the following XXXXX operations, starting of course with the ECC error correction.
After completing these operations, we see a list of files and directories that can be restored.
In the case of memory cards and flash drives based on monolithic systems, we often do not know which controller is used in a given medium.
This complicates and extends the data recovery process, since we do not know what operations this controller performs during read / write operations.
The described example of data recovery refers to a microSD card based on a "monolith" system. Data recovery from other "monolithic" systems is similar.
What do we need to repair Hardware
1.- Fine sandpaper (2500, 2000, 1500) or fiberglass cleaner.
2.- Isopropyl alcohol
3.- A fine soldering iron
4.- Pencil to mark
5.- Liquid gel flow
6.- BGA balls of 0.3 mm or 0.6 mm in diameter or thin can
7.- 0.1mm diameter enameled wire
8.- Scalpel to cut
9.- A set of hardware and software for data recovery (for example: PC3000 Flash - ACE Laboratory, Visual Nand Reconstructor - Rusolut, Flash Extractor - Soft-Center)
Recovery method Hetman FAT Recovery?
On the Internet, you can find several free software options by which you can try to restore your data immediately and without additional payments.
It is up to each user to decide which programs to use when it comes to data recovery. However, if you are interested in recovering almost all files, the right decision is to use Hetman FAT Recovery.
Download the program from the developer's official website and run the installation file. It will start the wizard to guide you step by step through the installation of Hetman FAT Recovery on your desktop or laptop. Installation is very simple and quick, so it won't be difficult even for novice users.
When the installation is complete, run the program. Hetman FAT Recovery will perform an initial scan of the operating system and will display all disks and storage devices installed or connected to your computer.
Data recovery with Hetman FAT The program's interface is very similar to that of Windows File Explorer, so it is very easy for anyone to use this tool. Find your memory card among other partitions and double click on it. The program starts the recovery wizard to guide you step by step through the settings required to begin restoring your files.
Check the Full Analysis option (looking for any available information). In the selected option, do not change anything on the lines FAT (USB drives, digital cameras, memory cards, Windows 9x) and Content Aware Analysis (search for file content). These will allow the program to restore the memory card's file system, run the SD card signature scan, and recover all the information it contains, including data deleted several months ago.
Hetman FAT Recovery. Finish
This window shows the list of all files and folders that the program has found and recovered. When you click on a file, you can view its contents in the preview window so that you can check the recovery results and ensure that the files are working properly before saving. After you have selected all the files to be recovered, click the Life Ring Recovery button found on the main menu panel.
Hetman FAT Recovery The file recovery wizard will open a pop-up window where you must choose the preferred method of saving the files that you have marked for recovery. The wizard allows you to choose between one of four options: save data to any hard drive, internal or external; burn files to an optical disc (CD / DVD); create a virtual ISO image or upload data using the FTP protocol. Check the cell next to the save method of your choice and click Next.
Hetman FAT Recovery. Save files Depending on the choice you have made, specify the necessary options for saving the files in the next window and click Recovery to complete the process. For example, when you choose Save to Hard Drive, you will need to set the path to the preferred directory and check or uncheck the boxes for additional settings.
Hetman FAT Recovery. Save to HDD Now all your files have been restored and saved to the safe location you have chosen. Open the files and make sure they are in good condition. After that, you can format the SD card to correct possible errors with one of the methods we have described above.
